SUMMARY:Virtual Speaker Series: The Ship that Held Up Wall Street with Warren Riess
DESCRIPTION:In January 1982\, archaeologists investigating a building site in Manhattan discovered the remains of an early eighteenth-century merchant ship. Not being maritime archaeologists\, they called on Warren Riess of Bristol to co-direct the excavation of the ship. For the next three decades he studied the ship and conducted research in America and Europe to discover as much as possible about it and determine what history could be learned from ship’s remains. \nOn Thursday evening\, January 15th\, Professor Riess will present an illustrated lecture on the discovery\, excavation\, subsequent research\, and the ship’s sailing history and what he learned from its remains. \nOffered virtually on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 PM EST\, the series is free and open to the public.
