Wilderness Medicine Workshop with Eric Duffy of WMA (Wilderness Medical Association)

August 15 @ 8:30 am - 4:00 pm
$100.00

The workshop will address subjects like: basic life support, managing musculoskeletal and spine injuries, treatment for high-risk wounds, and a range of environmental problems as well, including: thermoregulation, lightning, submersion injuries, and more.  The content is based on the curriculum and protocols of Wilderness Medical Associates International, a leader in the field of backcountry rescue and wilderness medicine.  Since starting out as the first aid training for HIOBs in the late 1980s, WMAI remains a Maine-based company that teaches a wide range of multi day courses, with a curriculum that has been translated into 8 languages, and has been taught on all seven continents.  See www.wildmed.com for more information.

Eric Duffy:

Eric Duffy is a Registered Nurse, a Wilderness EMT, and a Registered Maine Guide.  He has spent his career inside a triangle whose corners are marked by: emergency medicine, wilderness trip leading, and education.  He has been a lead instructor for WMA since 2002, and teaches regularly throughout midcoast Maine at places like Chewonki, LLBean’s Outdoor Discovery Schools, Bowdoin College’s Outing Club, Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust, and others.  When not teaching, Eric works as a nurse in an urgent care clinic, and as a professional sea kayaking guide as well.  A close neighbor of CBS, Eric also volunteers with the first responder program in the town of Bremen.
