Virtual Speaker Series: Single-Handed Sailing Adventures with Mike Herz

Back in the 1980s, Mike lived and sailed on San Francisco Bay. He got intrigued with the idea of solo sailing. During that time, he helped to start the Singlehanded Sailing Society (SSS) in the Bay area with its purpose to promote the sport of solo sailing as well as to develop equipment & techniques that improve offshore sailing and safety. SSS sponsored single handed sailing races in the Bay, offshore and to Hawaii. After Mike’s first solo race, from the Bay around the Farallon Islands, 27 miles beyond the Golden Gate and back, he was hooked. Two years later, he entered the Singlehanded Transpac to Hawaii. He will tell his story of preparation, training, outfitting, and adventure itself.
